LPS Residence

Flinders, Melbourne

2020 - 2022

LPS Residence is a new home in Flinders on a large Mornington Peninsula property, designed to occupy the site of the original house the family had outgrown. Designed with longevity in mind, the architecture is conceived as three volumes, sleeping, living, and dining, clustered around a central entry courtyard. This organisation gives the project clarity from the first step: a sheltered arrival, a legible plan, and a composed relationship between interior life and the landscape beyond.

The entry courtyard is not an outdoor room added for effect. It is the planning device that sets the rhythm of the house. It anchors scale, establishes privacy, and creates an interior sense of landscape, allowing the home to feel protected even as it opens outward. Movement between the three volumes becomes a sequence of small recalibrations: light shifts, views align, the house alternates between compression and release.

A restrained palette supports the larger intention. Fewer materials are used with greater discipline so that light, texture, and proportion can carry the atmosphere. The result is a home that feels calm in daily use, but never thin. It is deliberately choreographed, and designed to age well rather than peak at completion.
