ADB Residence
Brighton, Melbourne
2023 - Current
In collaboration with Hecker Guthrie and Florian Wild, ADB Residence comprises a series of thoughtful alterations and additions to Benarty, a grand Victorian homestead.
Alongside the full restoration of the original house, two new gabled pavilions bring Benarty into the 21st century, designed to accommodate the needs of a growing family.
This project sits within a heritage context in Brighton, requiring a measured relationship between existing and new. The aim was coherence rather than contrast, so the home reads as one considered whole.
We focused on atmosphere and sequence, shaping how the house is entered, how spaces unfold, and how light is received across the day.
Openings were treated as deliberate acts, framing outlook and borrowing light while maintaining privacy and repose. Detailing and material choices were made for durability and patina, so the architecture can age with dignity rather than rely on novelty.
