RZTK Residence
Caulfield North, Melbourne
2019 - 2024
RZTK Residence exemplifies how sensitive, strategic interventions can breathe new life into an aging home without superfluous additions. Guided by a philosophy of restraint and transformation, our design forgoes a typical rear extension, opting instead to reconfigure the existing layout, unlocking new spatial possibilities while enhancing flow, function, and natural light.
A key conceptual driver was chiaroscuro—the interplay of light and shadow—to heighten spatial drama. Movement through the home is defined by shifts in scale, materiality and light.
The journey begins with a shadowed, intimate entry that expands into a bright, open living area, which then culminates in a sunken lounge that frames views of the garden.
The new upper level replaces the original hipped roof, providing additional accommodation while redefining the home’s silhouette. The result is a clearly articulated contemporary form with a restrained street presence, blending subtly into its surroundings.
