MTM Residence
Newport, Melbourne
2022 - Current
This project is a new home in Newport, developed from a clear brief for contemporary living with a calm, enduring character. The design is organised as a lived sequence, balancing openness with retreat and shaping how the house feels when it is quiet and when it is full.
Atmosphere is carried through proportion, framed viewlines and borrowed light, with shadow and threshold used to slow movement and create depth. A disciplined material palette and careful junctions support longevity, allowing the home to remain coherent and convincing as it weathers over time.
As the MTM Residence nears completion, its design is taking shape. We recently engaged photographer Martin Filo to capture the progress, documenting the spaces as they come to life.
The textured bagged brickwork, both inside and out, is now revealed, providing a sense of connection and continuity throughout the home. These surfaces add depth and character to the design and will complement the future landscaping and interiors.
The house unfolds as a series of carefully considered pavilions, each stepping down the slope of the site.
Subtle level changes define transitions between spaces, allowing for a seamless flow from one area to the next.
Together, these elements form a home that responds deliberately to the site’s unique features and the needs of its future occupants.
